Simulation studies of multiclass queueing networks

چکیده
Multiclass queueing networks have been used to model communication and complex manufacturing systems. Recent results have shown that these networks can be unstable in the sense that the total number of jobs in the network explodes as time tends to in®nity even if the trac intensity at each station is less than unity. Simulation is used to demonstrate these unusual phenomena. Conjectures based on simulation are presented.

متن کاملFLUID APPROXIMATIONS AND STABILITY OF MULTICLASS QUEUEING NETWORKS: WORK-CONSERVING DISCIPLINES Running Head: Multiclass Queueing Networks
This paper studies the uid approximation (also known as the functional strong law-of-large-numbers) and the stability (positive Harris recurrent) for a multiclass queueing network. Both of these are related to the stabilities of a linear uid model, constructed from the rst-order parameters (i.e., long-run average arrivals, services and routings) of the queueing network. It is proved that the ui...
متن کاملVariance Reduction in Simulation of Multiclass Queueing Networks
We use simulation to estimate the steady-state performance of a stable multiclass queueing network. Standard estimators have been seen to perform poorly when the network is heavily loaded. We introduce two new simulation estimators. The first provides substantial variance reductions in moderately-loaded networks at very little additional computational cost. The second estimator provides substan...
متن کاملFactorized time-dependent distributions for certain multiclass queueing networks and an application to enzymatic processing networks
Motivated by applications in biological systems, we show for certain multiclass queueing networks that time-dependent distributions for the multiclass queue-lengths can have a factorized form which reduces the problem of computing such distributions to a similar problem for related single-class queueing networks. We give an example of the application of this result to an enzymatic processing ne...
متن کاملStability conditions for multiclass uid queueing networks
We introduce a new method to investigate stability of work-conserving policies in multiclass queueing networks. The method decomposes feasible trajectories and uses linear programming to test stability. We show that this linear program is a necessary and suucient condition for the stability of all work-conserving policies for multiclass uid queueing networks with two stations. Furthermore, we n...
